JOINING THE POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATION
The Executive Committee provides leadership, organization, support, and continuity to the Postdoctoral Association (PDA). This committee is consisted of each sub-committee’s co-chairs. The committee serves as the liaisons between the postdoctoral community and the Office of Postdoctoral Education (OPE) and university administration. In formal settings, the co-chairs of the executive committee serve as the spokespersons on behalf of the PDA.
The International Postdoctoral Committee (IPC) supports foreign national postdocs in personal and career development. Each spring, this committee is in charge of running the Green Card workshop, and each fall, it is in charge of running the Visa workshop. The IPC (injunction with the social committee) hosts social events designed to foster relationship among international postdocs.
The Minority Postdoctoral Council (MPC) supports the diverse postdoctoral fellows during their time at Emory and throughout their career placement. The MPC is committed to heightening the need for diversity among the greater biomedical sciences at Emory University.
The Research Symposium Committee (RSC) plans for and organizes the annual Postdoc Research Symposium with assistance from OPE. The research symposium is a common platform for all postdocs across all departments in Emory University to share their research with the Emory community. In addition to the planning and organization, the RSC is responsible for selecting the keynote speaker, scoring and selecting oral presentations, advertising, and volunteering during the symposium.
The Science Writers Committee (SWC) consists of postdocs who want to develop their writing skills and who enjoy writing. This committee post blogs on postdoctoral life at Emory and publishes the PDA newsletter, which includes articles on the latest science, OPE hosted workshops, career development, and other topics of interest to the postdoctoral community.
The Social Committee is in charge of organizing and hosting social events for the postdoctoral community. This committee is also responsible for helping the other sub-committees with organizing and planning for their social events.
The Workshop Committee assists OPE and the other sub-committees with planning and organizing events and workshops throughout the year. Members of the committee are given the opportunity to moderate discussion panels and network with noteworthy Emory faculty and industry professionals. The committee drafts volunteers for setting up and breaking down the events and collecting feedback on the events and workshops from participants.
